Since 2000, the vast majority of cars have been fitted with an electronic "drive-by-wire" pedal. The engine's responsiveness is directly linked to the electronic pedal, which in turn acts on the opening speed of the throttle body. The faster the throttle opens, the more responsive the engine and the faster it accelerates.
