CUPRA produces a range of engines that are fitted to all available models, with varying degrees of power depending on weight, sportiness and trim level. This is why the same engine will be found in a given model, but with more or less horsepower, depending on the ECU configuration.
The increase in performance of a CUPRA is linked to the power reserve made available by the manufacturer.
For example, an engine fitted to the base trim level of a given model will be less powerful than the same engine fitted to the sport trim level, but if the manufacturer's tuning parameters are to be found solely in the ECU mapping, then the gain from such an "electronically deflated" engine will be potentially high. tuning box often take advantage of this available power reserve.
